Banyan Tree Bangkok’s rooftop is part of its reputation, but the current renovation notice changes the immediate booking decision. The hotel says Vertigo and Moon Bar are temporarily closed and are scheduled to reopen on 2 December 2026. The Sathorn address still offers substantial rooms and suites, although guest accounts show that room views and temporary arrangements deserve attention during the works.
The rooftop is temporarily out of the picture
Vertigo occupies the 61st floor. Its official page describes an open-air restaurant beside Moon Bar, looking over Bangkok’s skyline. That is a different experience from eating inside a high-rise dining room: the exposed setting and broad outlook are part of what people come for. Until the announced reopening, however, photographs of dinner above the city should not be read as a facility available during a stay.
The closure is specific to these venues; it does not establish that the whole hotel is closed. Other parts of the hotel have also been involved in an enhancement programme. An August guest reported checking in on the 19th floor while work affected the front desk. This is useful evidence of a temporary arrangement rather than a permanent description of arrival at Banyan Tree.
Room names separate size from outlook
Agoda’s room descriptions list Horizon City View and Horizon Park View rooms at 48 square metres, with king or twin bedding. A one-bedroom Serenity Suite is listed at 59 square metres, while the two-bedroom version is substantially larger at 119 square metres. The suite names describe a different arrangement, not simply a higher-floor version of the Horizon room.
That distinction matters when reading an account of a room change. One Trip.com guest booked a Horizon City View and was disappointed by a replacement suite on a lower floor, reporting a poor outlook and disturbance from works. A larger floor area did not deliver the quality that guest valued most. The complaint does not tell us the outlook of every Serenity Suite, but it explains why ‘upgrade’ and ‘better view’ are not interchangeable here.

The service gets warmer reports than some of the temporary spaces
Marco So1014, staying in a Horizon City View in September, praised the room’s cleanliness, the view and the professionalism of staff. Another Horizon guest enjoyed a spacious room and a high-floor city outlook but found check-in slow. These accounts point to a hotel where personal service can remain a strength while the physical arrangements are changing.
The contrast is more helpful than calling the hotel either dated or fully refreshed. The relevant questions are which room category was occupied and which public areas were available during that visit. Recent praise is not proof that building work has ended; an older photograph is not proof that a space remains unchanged.
A Sathorn stay with a changing public face
The address is 21/100 South Sathon Road in the business district. This is the city hotel rather than Banyan Tree’s separately named riverside residences. It offers a skyline setting, not a hotel frontage directly on the Chao Phraya. Confusing the two would change both the expected outlook and the way the stay works.
The two-bedroom Serenity option is more than twice the stated area of a Horizon room. That makes it relevant to a party needing separate sleeping accommodation, but it still leaves floor, orientation and the effect of works as separate questions. During the announced enhancement period, the most useful confirmation is the actual booked room and currently operating facilities, rather than the largest room photograph.
For a visit during the renovation period, the spacious accommodation and service are the clearer reasons to consider Banyan Tree Bangkok. The rooftop should be treated as a future, scheduled reopening. Guests whose main wish is Vertigo at sunset have a much more date-sensitive decision than guests who mainly want a large Sathorn room.
