Amari Bangkok review: the former Watergate address opposite Platinum, its 40-square-metre rooms, dining and pool.

Amari Bangkok stands opposite Platinum Fashion Mall on New Phetchaburi Road, putting clothes shopping and the Pratunam district close to the centre of a stay. The old Watergate name survives in booking links, but the hotel now calls itself Amari Bangkok. The attraction here is the combination of that shopping address with sizeable rooms and enough on-site facilities to make returning to the hotel part of the day.

The Watergate address has a new name

The hotel’s own history traces the property to Amari Watergate Bangkok in 1994 and identifies a renovation in 2021 followed by a rebrand in 2024. That helps make sense of the older name without treating it as a different hotel. The official address remains 847 New Petchburi Road in Ratchathewi, within the Pratunam area.

Platinum Fashion Mall is a particularly relevant neighbour. The official location page puts it opposite the hotel, and a repeat guest on Trip.com identified the mall and nearby markets as the reason they kept returning. This is a stronger match for a shopping-focused stay than an assumption that every central Bangkok hotel offers the same surroundings. The property is not presented here as directly linked to a BTS station.

Forty square metres is the starting point

Amari lists the Deluxe Room at 40 square metres, with king or twin beds and a city, garden or pool view. The official description includes a daybed and work space. That combination gives the room more uses than simply sleeping: there is somewhere to sit away from the bed and a separate surface for work. The view depends on the room allocation, so a photograph of one outlook does not establish what every Deluxe guest receives.

Several categories have the same published size. Deluxe, Grand Deluxe, Premier and Club Premier are all listed at 40 square metres on the hotel’s overview. Moving up the category list therefore does not necessarily buy more floor space. Club Premier adds the distinct question of Club Siraa privileges, while the larger suites move into a different layout and size range. A traveller comparing rooms should see those as separate benefits rather than a single ladder of bigger rooms.

A hotel to return to between shopping trips

The free-form pool, FIT Centre and Breeze Spa give the property a leisure side alongside its shopping location. The hotel also lists Amaya Food Gallery, Prego, Italthai Cellar and Aqua Eatery & Bar. Those names indicate different places to eat or pause on site; they are not a claim that every guest will prefer the hotel restaurants to the surrounding city.

A repeat guest staying in a Deluxe King Room on Trip.com liked the pool and breakfast at Amaya Food Gallery. A second guest, also in a Deluxe King Room, highlighted access to CentralWorld and Big C. These accounts point in the same direction: the property can function as a base for repeated outings rather than a place left once in the morning and only reached again at night. Their reported experience does not establish an exact walking time or the quality of every breakfast.

Room style deserves a closer look than the brand name

The review evidence includes a guest who was pleased with a newly renovated room after an upgrade. That is useful but category-specific: an upgrade is not the same product as the room originally booked. Amari’s own category descriptions are the better way to understand what a Deluxe or Premier reservation includes. The hotel’s renovation history should not be read as a promise that every room has an identical finish.

For travellers spending much of the trip around Pratunam, Amari’s strongest argument is easy to see: the mall-facing location, a 40-square-metre entry category and an outdoor pool support different parts of the same day. The less suitable match is a stay chosen mainly for a direct rail-station connection or a quiet resort setting. Its character comes from being a substantial city hotel in a busy shopping district.
